Gastronomy & Wine

Enjoying excellent local gastronomy is an essential part of every tour. Andalucia offers a wide variety of enjoyable treats to be discovered during this trip. Here are some suggestions on what Andalucian gastronomy has to offer:

In the Málaga Province:
Ajo blanco (gazpacho with almonds), Porra antequerana (gazpacho in a thicker version), Málaga dessert wines and definitely fresh seafood including anchovies and sardines.

In the Granada Province:
Rabbit stews, the typical Plato Alpujarreño (a meat plate with sausage, pork loin, fried eggs and potatoes), authentic Arabic cuisine including couscous, hummus and beef/chicken tagine, as well as Arabic sweets.

Program for Explorers

Even if your partner is not a cyclist, the program for non-cycling Explorers makes it possible to enjoy a this adventure together. For non-cycling travellers (Explorers) we offer a completely independent travel experience.  This includes a guide, a custom itinerary and a separate vehicle for a fantastic travel experience in Andalucia. Here are a few highlights to be explored:

This town of more than 2700-year history has a lot to offer: Hiking along the “Trail Asa de la Caldera-Los Molinos” to get the best view of the New Bridge over El Tajo Gorge, or visiting the old town where you will see the buildings from Muslin or Arabic identity, as well as the largest complex of white houses in Andalucia. If you are interested in the culture of Bullfighting, do not miss the oldest Bullring dating back to 1785. If you are the big fan of Ernest Miller Hemingway or George Orson Welles, Ronda will not disappoint you with its charming vibe.

Inside of the park, we will visit the Caves of Ardales where prehistoric art such as drawings of animal silhouettes can be seen. Hiking here can be fun because of the local species in fauna and flora. Only under the 100% confirmation of the safety condition, we might have a chance to go through the Royal Trail with suspended footbridge where you can look over the gorgeous cliff. Besides, water sports in this most amazing area can be prepared if you are ready to join!

Alhambra is the common picture of the city Granada. It vividly presents the highest level of Arabic architecture and Moorish culture. The current form of the complex can date back to the 13th century. Used to be a living society on top of the mountain between the 14th and the 19th century, this place has many historical events to tell to the current world.

Bodegas Sedella is quite of a character. With only being 13 years old, this winery founded by a young Spanish winemaker Mr. Lauren Rosillo, has been popular for its innovation, enthusiasm, personal touch and much of the happiness. They only produce reds at this moment. We will visit their modern architecture and join unique wine-tasting tour.

Cycling Tour Services

The Tour of Andalucia includes the following items:

You will receive a GPS rental-unit and a route card for each stage. With this GPS on your handlebars, you will always know your way. It is up to you whether you want to cycle in a group or at your own pace. If you are bringing your own GPS, we will transfer the tracks to your device at the beginning of the tour.

One of our support cars is always nearby – en route we stay close by and we await you with snacks and drinks at the important cols. As necessary, we also offer the possibility to ride parts of the stage in the support car. All tours are scheduled so that you can expect excellent weather. Should it unexpectedly happen that you cannot cycle, we will transfer you to the next hotel.

Our support car is equipped with a comprehensive first-aid-kit. For immediate response we carry standard equipment, oxygen and a heart defibrillator.

For the most important repairs we carry a comprehensive set of tools and standard replacement parts for Shimano 11-speed components. We also carry some spare bikes. Additional costs may apply.

We carry fresh fruits, energy bars, gels, cookies & crackers, nuts & dry fruits, water, sports drink powder, soft drinks and hot beverages for you in the support car.

We transport one soft-shell traveling bag and one daypack for you. Your daypack will be accessible during the stages.

Accommodations are in well-kept, family owned Hotels and B&Bs. Regional specialities will be served and the needs of cyclists are accounted for.

We capture the best moments of the tour for you. There will be a slideshow presentation at the end of the tour. Also, you will be able to purchase the slideshow and individual photos of yourself.

In order to always guarantee the best possible road conditions we annually update each tour.

Bike

An Electric RoadBike will also be available for rent. We will have these bikes starting in May 2020.

If you are bringing your own bike in a bike-case and are taking our airport transfer, please let us know in advance and we will bring your bike-case to the starting location in the Andalucia.

For the bike set-up, we have most standard tools (including a torque wrench) available for you. So, unless your bike has special requirements, there is no need to bring extra tools. During the tour your bike-case will be stored and brought to where the tour ends. There, you may repack your bike in the evening before the departure day. During the tour you will not have access to your bike-case and your bike might need to be transported by us on the roof of our vehicle.

While we offer tools for setting up your bike, please be advised that correct and timely bike set-up remains your responsibility. During the tour we carry spare parts for Shimano 11-Speed components. If you have anything other than this, we recommend bringing some basic spare parts as you see fit.
